poli-tic me off.

caution, political post.

i work with a bunch of dumb shits. i just had someone tell me they would rather die than have clinton back in office. isn't that a little dramatic?

and for what, because he got some head in office and lied about it?

last i checked, we were still in afghanistan and iraq to protect ourselves against terrorism (it'll be 4 years on sunday since the impetus for this happened). we have a country that cannot react to a forcasted hurricane barrelling at a coastal town that is situated below sea level. you'd think after 9-11 we'd be at least prepared to deal with large scale disasters. if our fearless leader could do anything to protect his constituency, you'd think it'd be that, wouldn't you?? naw, i'm headin' to crawford for my semi-annual 1 month vacation while i'm putting our dwindling armed forces in harms way in a country we shouldn't be focusing on.

at least his daughters are hot (and nasty).

and speaking of new orleans...we're going to end up paying billions in relief/rebuild efforts (still a bargain compared to war). my question is this: how much would it have cost to build the levees to withstand a category 4 or 5 hurricane? my guess is that 10.5 billion would have been close.

is it that americans are reactionary (ie, no forsight)? maybe not all but it seems the majority are. maybe i should stop resisting and take part.

sorry, i needed to vent.

A recent online report:

"The Bush administration is being widely criticized for the emergency response to Hurricane Katrina but it's falling on deaf ears, and also for their allegedly inadequate protection for the big one that residents had long feared would hit New Orleans, but research into more than ten years of reporting on hurricane and flood damage mitigation efforts in and around New Orleans indicates that local and state officials did not use federal money that was available for levee improvements or coastal reinforcement and often did not use local matching funds that would have generated even more federal funding."

Also, the mayor of New Orleans, who was so famously critical of the federal response to the hurricane, hid behind "No Comment" when he was pointedly asked why he did not authorize the New Orleans public school buses to be used in the evacuation effort. The result: thousands of school buses flooded in.

Hey, I keep trying to send you an email but it repeatedly gets returned to me. Something up with your email server or mine? Don't know about Fat Tire yet. Katie and I were set on going, but then simultaneously she was invited to the bridal shower for the October wedding she is in and some guys up here are going to do a 50-60k tempo run on the Ed Fitz course; both on Saturday. We're still leaning on going, but not sure. Things will shake out this weekend.

it's always easy to look back and say 'we should have done this or we should have done that'. our political system is a joke and the only forward thinking they really care about is staging themselves to win the next election and / or how to collect that golden retirement package for a job well done. well i'll be a horses a$$.
